Relatively speaking, the Marans breed is new to the US. The neither the APA nor the ABA accept them as yet

They have become increasingly popular largely in part to the lovely dark brown or reddish brown egg color.Marans (pronounced "Maran" without the s) are originally a French breed.

The French version is feather legged; the English version is clean legged. Both the French and English types as well as a number of other varieties (color & pattern) representing a number of different bloodlines are found in the US

Egg color can also vary greatly between different bloodlines lines.

We're working with French (feather legged) birds in the following bloodlines and varieties: Wade Jeane: Black Copper Bev Davis: Blue/ Spl ash, and Wheaten/ Blue Wheaten.
